Is
This What Your Nose Has Been Waiting For?
Many individuals
suffer from mild to severe allergies. You may not realize just
how many: experts estimate that 20 percent or more of adults
suffer from allergies. While there are lots of medicines on
the market today that will help an individual with allergies,
most people end up needing more than one kind of medication
treatment to achieve optimal relief. Let's take my own allergies
for example: I take a daily allergy pill in the spring and
fall; I take prescription eyedrops during the worst months;
I need an inhaler when something I am allergic to gives me
an asthma episode. If you have anything but the mildest allergy
symptoms, and if you are just taking one medication, you are
most likely not getting all the relief that you could be getting.
In this article, you will be introduced to the medication Nasonex.
This medicine can be taken as a supplement to what you are
currently taking, or as a stand alone treatment, depending
on your specific circumstance and symptoms.
You may
have heard the name Nasonex; you may have even seen the advertisements
on billboards with the unique digitally designed bee. The commercials
that display this Antonio Banderas sounding bee are often displayed
on station breaks of our favorite TV shows. (By the way, is
that really his voice, or just a sound-alike? I haven't been
able to find out definitely either way.) While the advertisements
for this particular allergy medication are often quite catchy
and humorous, the benefits that this medication offers are
serious and numerous for the allergy sufferer.
First of
all, what technically is an allergy? It is the occurrence of
a response of the immune system which is considered to be abnormal.
The immune system of an individual reacts to normal, everyday
substances in a harsh manner. This is actually a very common
experience among individuals, as mentioned before, affecting
20% or more of adults. It seems odd to me that allergies are
considered to be an abnormal condition if one in five people
have it!
There is
usually a particular substance, or a group of substances, that
causes an allergic reaction. These substances are are referred
to as "allergens". Nobody really knows how people
become allergic to common, everyday substances, but many researchers
theorize that allergies develop, at least in part, when young
children are exposed to certain chemical building-blocks before
their immune systems are ready to deal with them. These researchers
suggest, for example, to delay introducing certain foods to
babies and tolddlers, especially if there is a family history
of allergies. And speaking of family histories: I have seen
reports that claim a child is 25% more likely to have allergies
if one parent has them, and up to 75% more likely if both parents
have them!
There are
many different kinds of allergens that a person may react to.
These substances include various types of pollen, food, dander,
molds, and even medications and dust. Individuals that experience
allergies often experience many uncomfortable symptoms. Nasonex
helps to alleviate the many symptoms that one may experience.
These symptoms include:
- Nasal
congestion and irritation (doctor-speak: rhinitis)
- Symptoms
of the eyes, such as irritation and watering (medical-jargon:
allergic conjunctivitis)
- A rash
that appears on various parts of the body
- General
discomfort and feelings of malaise (my high school biology
teacher used to call this "the general yuckies")
Nasonex
has been proven to alleviate the symptoms of allergies in numerous
ways. This prescription medication has been tested on individuals
that are at least twelve years old and up. It helps to soothe
the symptoms of congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and similar
conditions. As a matter of fact, Nasonex has been found to
be effective in preventing these common allergy symptoms before
they start! This particular allergy treatment is one of the
few prescriptions on the market for allergies that allow an
individual to achieve 24 hour relief by just one single use.
This makes it a very effective medication for those who suffer
from severe allergies.
Though there
are a few side effects that may be experienced with this particular
type of medication, it is generally not very common. An individual
may suffer from something as simple as a slight headache or
a sore throat, but as stated previously, the occurrence of
side effects from taking the prescription medication of Nasonex
is uncommon. Furthermore, the benefits of Nasonex far outweigh
the possible side effects. Nasonex is a nasal spray that has
been found to alleviate the symptoms of common, seasonal allergies.
The spray is perfume-free or scent-free to reduce the possibility
of the medicine itself causing further irritation.
In addition
to actually treating the symptoms of allergies, this particular
medication actually works to prevent the onset of seasonal
allergies. Most medications for allergies simply soothe the
symptoms of those that are already experiencing allergies.
However, Nasonex goes a step above that and stops allergies
before they stop. Now that you've heard some more details about
this great new medicine, why don't you talk to your doctor
about whether you should give it a try? Your nose will thank
you!
